We’ve been on tour quite a bit, living on the road and playing music far from our homes, far from our roots. It was a really heart-warming surprise to return to Kati’s hometown, Phoenix, AZ, and to participate in a flamenco festival where there were only female guitarists and female flamenco guitar players!
Our duo, Flamenco Americana, brought Latin Indie vibes to the modern flamenco scene. We were the flamenco nuevo folks while the traditional flamenco part was upheld by these two inspirational female flamenco guitarists: Antonia Jimenez and Salvadora Galán.
Our musical couple expanded to a trio with the very talented (and very pregnant!🤰) Sarah Castellanos, a traditional flamenco dancer who interpreted our flamenco nuevo and flamenco indie songs (Siempre te tengo presente, Tangos de Chicago, and Ain’t no Sunshine). Even though the public expected a night of ‘flamenco puro’ we felt super welcomed and grateful to show AZ the new types of flamenco fusions coming from Spain and around the globe.
